I Can't Imagine Being Without You

I can't imagine being without you
My heart won't allow it.
My eyes will never look at another
I am devoted only to you
I can't imagine not kissing you
My lips have felt the softness of yours
I breathe you in each time we're together
I taste you even if we're apart
I can't imagine not holding your hand
Ours is a connection we feel
Hands make love when we touch
Love has become very real
I can't imagine not feeling
the passion I have discovered
My desire is only to please
And think first of you

Synopsis:

A poem structured around the anaphora "I can't imagine," exploring different aspects of connection that have become essential. Scott can't imagine being without Priya—his heart won't allow it, his eyes will never look at another. He can't imagine not kissing her, not holding her hand, not feeling the passion he's discovered. Each stanza focuses on a different dimension: being together, kissing, holding hands, and feeling passion, with his desire always to please and think of her first.

Author's Note:

This poem came from trying to imagine my life without Priya and realizing I literally can't do it. My heart won't allow it—it's like trying to imagine not breathing. My eyes will never look at another woman the way they look at her because she's the only one I see. I can't imagine not kissing her because my lips have felt the softness of hers and nothing else will ever compare. I breathe her in, I taste her even when we're apart. Holding hands makes love when we touch—it's not just physical contact, it's connection. And the passion I've discovered with her? I can't imagine not feeling that. My whole desire is to please her and think of her first. She's become essential to my existence.
